This project involved a comprehensive addition/renovation to the 7,500 sf Hoffmann Environmental Center at Berkshire Community College and new detached greenhouse. The college administration wanted the building modernized to accommodate the Sustainable Energy Resource Training program in the building which had historically been dedicated to Environmental Science. The creative yet practical design approach allowed the construction budget to renovate the majority of the interior spaces also.
Using the sun as a conceptual driver for the reprogramming of the building, the spaces in the building were realigned within the building to give the "Sustainability Lab" direct access to a solar terrace for the teaching equipment being utilized. Views of the surrounding valley defined where enlarged windows were oriented.
